Speedcar Series & UAE National Race Day 5 on 27 & 28 February 2009 at Dubai Autodrome®
Big race weekend geared for motorsport fans and families

Dubai, February 24, 2009: Dubai Autodrome once again dishes out a feast of motorsport this weekend. An action packed bill, on track and off track, is once again on the cards ensuring a weekend not to miss for motorsport and sport fans alike.

Headlining the bill is the awesome Speedcar Series featuring roaring V8 stockcar racers, raw and brutal, at the hands of some of the best drivers in the world pitting wily former Formula 1 veterans against young up and coming stars including our very own Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum. He will be up against a array of legendary ex-Formula 1 drivers including reigning Speedcar Champion Johnny Herbert, 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and Grand Prix winners Heinz Harald Frentzen and Jean Alesi, recent Formula 1 exile Viatantonio Liuzzi and Gianni Morbidelli. They face a concerted challenge by the “pretenders to the throne” including FIA GT Champion Thomas Biagi, Damien Pasini, Marchy Lee and Dubai based Christopher Zoechling. Paint scraping action guaranteed during the two races on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The support card features UAE National Championships, namely the Yellow Hat UAE Touring Car Championship with House of Portier, the UAE Sportbike Championship and the Gulf Radical Cup. UAE Touring Cars have been the revelation of the season with top class racing across the five class field with the battle for overall victory an inevitable highlight of proceedings. Porsche, Dodge Viper, Corvette, SEAT, Mitsubishi, Renault are some of the marques out there in the thick of the action.

The UAE Sportbike Championship invariably provides some of the closest racing with the top riders battling it out at the front. They face an added challenge from a couple of international riders who have blazed onto the scene and raised the bar considerably in the past two months. Much of the same can be expected this weekend.

The Gulf Radical Cup features some of the quickest cars to lap the Dubai Autodrome this weekend. Sleek, ultra-fast purpose built machines, the Radicals offer fans a glimpse of Le Mans style racing with a  host of drivers capable of scoring top honours as the season has proven so far.

This weekend provides an international stage for our local heroes to showcase their talents. Big fields are expected in the highly competitive, and increasingly professional, UAE National series.

The unique element of such weekend’s at Dubai Autodrome is the concerted effort to make the event family friendly with a myriad of off-track attractions designed to wow the kids and plaster smiles on the faces of parents. Access to the Paddock is free and a not to be missed opportunity to savour the behind the scenes activities that so often go unseen by the motorsport public. The list of Paddock activities is impressive to say the least and includes displays by: TAM Auto Engineering, Top Line Motors, “Xtreme Street” Freestyle Fiesta, Private Car Show and displays by a variety of Car & Motorcycle Clubs.

Other “backstage” activities include a Track Tour, Autograph Sessions and Race & Drive Centre demos while food & beverages will be available at the Pit Stop lounge and a mouthwatering Aussie style barbecue.
