2009 DAMC Karting Championship – Round 5 at the Kartdrome
Rami Azzam wins in front of World Karting Champion

Dubai, February 13, 2009: In the presence of the famous Italian Daniello Rossi, the World Karting Champion in 1992, 1997, and 1999, the curtain was lowered on Friday February 13, 2009 for the Round 5 of Tracktalk DAMC Karting Championship that was held at the Kartdrome at Dubai Autodrome. Frequent dramatic and unexpected events took place especially with the weather conditions that caused complications for some drivers. The sand storm that invaded Dubai on the weekend had a huge affect on the performance of the Racing Karts to all 5 categories that were participating in the race as the sand caused slippery conditions from lack of grip.

In the Rotax Max Seniors, it cannot be described in a few words as the race was action-packed. The current UAE Karting Champion, and title defender, Scot Latham who had lost the first place to Rami Azzam in Round 4, was determined to finish the race with a win in Round 5 but his victory was also stolen from a “Azzam”, but this time Rami’s brother, Ramez Azzam who has an excellent experience in Karting and Single Seater races which eventually led to an exceptional performance and a well deserved first place.

The competition was fierce in the Rotax Max Master Class, when the crowd was expecting Hassan Darghai to win the first place especially when he accomplished superb lap times in the qualifying, 1st race, and the second race, but the final word was for Damien Not where he appeared from nowhere hardly stealing the first place from Hassan Darghai and Andrew Fuller who finished in the third place.

Shortly after the qualifying round, the pace was getting faster by each lap as Tom Bale in the Cadet Class crossed the chequered flag with an easy win leaving the Silver Medal on the podium to Pascal Bock and the Bronze Medal to Zak Monawer.

The unbeatable Edward Jones in the Rotax Max Junior Class, once again, a straightforward and a well deserved win. Rotax Max Juniors and the Tag Class merged to race on tack at the same time which made it exciting and had no room for driving mistakes.

In the Tag Class, Fady Al Aswad who was unlucky in Round 4 where he had engine problems and finished third, was triumphant in Round 5 finishing first in his class.  “I wouldn’t call it an easy win, it was far from being easy but I am very happy with the competition especially with the Mojo tires that I find them better than Bridgestone tires when it comes to the grip and performance, and the proof was my new lap record that I achieved today”, said Fady Al Aswad. The second place win was for Warren Christy and the third place win for the determined and stubborn John Mike.
